  2. When the file is downloaded, right-click on it and select “Extract here” to extract the files out of the zip folder.

  4. Now follow the steps explained in “Solution 4” to enable the Steam in-game overlay if it is not enabled already.
  5. Open Steam as an administrator and launch the game to check if the oblivion crash on startup issue persists.

Note: If you use Mode Organizer to manage your mods and still can’t get rid of this problem, makes sure that there is no file named “Hook.dll” in the game’s directory. If you see this file there, make sure you delete it before launching the game again. After deleting the file, copy the “Oblivion.ini” file from the following location and paste it in the MO profile.

Tips for Vista users:

If you are a Vista user and Oblivion crashes on your computer when you try to launch the game, then make sure that you are running the game with Administrative privileges. It is also recommended to close all the unwanted background applications while running the game. We highly recommend you to install the game in “C:\” instead of “C:\Program Files” to avoid any security issues of Vista.
